With the recent dramatic increase in the use “bipolar disorder” as a diagnostic label, it is critical that as a clinician you understand how to identify clients with bipolar disorder and how to differentiate them from those with unipolar depression, ADHD, and borderline personality.

Join author, expert and national speaker Dr. Brian Quinn and learn the latest psychosocial therapies for bipolar illness, with information on how you can help improve the bipolar client to function. You will learn about a potent non-drug treatment for mania, new research on omega-3 fatty acids from fish, and the surprising results from the latest studies on antidepressants, Lamictal, and atypical antipsychotics.

Objectives:

  • Assess depressed patients for a history of mania or hypomania
  • Recognize irritable and mixed mood states
  • Evaluate four lines of clinical evidence in order to distinguish bipolar from unipolar depression and other disorders such as ADHD and borderline personality
  • Apply key components of empirically-tested psychotherapies to reduce relapse and improve functioning of bipolar patients
  • Describe the best medications for bipolar depression
